Ross McGarvey is an entrepreneur and CEO of Avant8, a full-service digital agency based in Salt Lake City.

Ross moved to the US in 2009 at the peak of the economic downturn with 4 bags, 6 boxes, and belief that he could make something great for his family.

Since 2009 he has built and grown multiple companies from basements ideas to multimillion dollar ventures, been named on Utahs Business Magazines 40 under 40 lists and has been featured in Forbes.

Ross is passionate about the startup community, as he has seen 1st hand the strong positive economic impact that new businesses create on local markets.

Interspersed with joking nonsense, we have conversations with people who have bucked the trend, not conformed to the social pressure (whatever they might culturally be) and who believe that following their own path in spite of the haters actually leads to something that can get them what they want.

In a world that always seems to have a plan for us, we can end up swept away in the wave of the mass transit that is life.
Don’t have the right clothes – strike
Don’t have the right interests – strike
Didn’t get the right grades, job, promotion, raise, girl, house, car … life steeeerikke

At what point is it ok just to be ok with who, where and what we are?

I just want to do my thing, walk my path and and ideally supported for it. At the very least not resented, rejected or criticized for it.

It’s fashionable, it’s what everyone’s doing
It’s cool to say that you have a startup
It’s cools to say that you own your own business, but what does that actually mean to you?

As the CEO of two startup companies, Ross McGarvey knows what it takes to succeed in marketing. Over the past few years, he realized he was telling his clients the same advice again and again. He knew there had to be a better way to get his insights to businesses. Rather than teaching everyone these secret weapons one by one, he’s ready to pass this knowledge on crowd by crowd.

If this doesn’t persuade you, maybe his Scottish accent or neon graphic tees will instead. Through humor, wit, and complete honesty, Ross makes an event not only insightful, but entertaining as well.

He knows success is possible for those who push themselves. Make your brand one of them!
